Kenninji-temple /建仁寺 is the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto, was built in 1202. The founder is Eisai/栄西, who is the person bring Zen to Japan to reform Japanese Buddhism of Tiantai. By the helping of Minamoto no Yoriie/源頼家, who is Shogun, Eisai could build Zen temple in Kyoto. Also, Kenninji has a lot of arts like Fujin Raijin Zu/風神雷神図屏風 by Tawaraya Soutatsu/俵屋宗達! (The copy is displaying in temple, the original is in Kyoto national museum and it is not display always.)
